Gothic bridge

Although the Gothic bridge was originally part of the design of the so-called “chivalric precinct” from 1798, it was only completed in around 1810.

Gotische BrückeIts bold ogive stands parallel to the rock arch of the grotto and thus symbolises the work of art in contrast to the work of nature. This architecture also makes it clear that the Gothic style is "in harmony with nature" and that man has to acknowledge nature as the model creator of art (see Ovids Metamorphosis, where the rock arch is an old topos for this "contest"). The reliefs on this bridge are the work of the sculptor Franz Kähsmann.
