Accessibility in the palace park
Here you will find important information about accessibility in Laxenburg Palace Park and in Franzensburg Castle.
Laxenburg Palace Park is largely barrier‑free. To help all visitors navigate the area comfortably, we have compiled the key answers to your accessibility questions here.

Are there discounts for people with disabilities at Laxenburg Palace Park?
People with a disability degree of over 50% shown in their disability ID, as well as those who use a wheelchair and can prove this with a valid disability ID, receive a reduced admission to Laxenburg Palace Park. The registered accompanying person also gets a discounted ticket.
Please note: Reduced tickets can only be purchased on site at staffed ticket counters in Schlosspark Laxenburg, as a valid ID must be presented. They cannot be bought online or at the ticket machines. Thank you for your understanding.
Are the paths in Laxenburg Palace Park accessible?
Laxenburg Palace Park features more than 10 kilometres of level, well‑maintained paths. All main paths are paved, and most sights – such as Franzensburg Castle, the Altes Schloss, or the Concordia Temple – are easily accessible at all times. Unpaved paths, such as those leading to the Green Pavillon, the Knight’s Column, or the Dovecote, may be more difficult to navigate with wheelchairs or walking aids after rainfall.
We therefore recommend using the paved main paths, especially in wet weather. Seating areas along the paths, as well as low‑barrier access to central areas, help ensure a pleasant and comfortable visit throughout the entire park.
Where are the accessible parking spaces located in Laxenburg Palace Park?
All park entrances can be accessed barrier‑free. At our main entrance (P1), you will find several designated disabled parking spaces. On busy days, these spaces tend to fill up quickly, but our staff will gladly help you find a suitable parking spot
Where are the accessible restroom facilities located in Laxenburg Palace Park?”
In Laxenburg Palace Park, two accessible restroom facilities are available at all times: one next to the children’s playground and one at the Reitstall Gate entrance (Parking P2, Münchendorferstraße 5, 2361 Laxenburg).
With a Euro-Key, an accessible restroom at Franzensburg Castle can also be used. From all park entrances, the walking time to Franzensburg Castle is approximately 30 minutes.
Is the museum tour through the state rooms of Franzensburg Castle accessible?
The ground floor of Franzensburg Castle, located in the centre of Laxenburg Palace Park, can be visited barrier‑free and with a wheelchair as part of the museum tour. Please note, however, that some doors and corridors are quite narrow for wheelchairs. Visitors with a disability degree of over 50%, verified with an official disability ID, as well as their registered accompanying person, receive a reduced admission fee. To reach the first floor, stairs are required. These steps must be climbed via a spiral staircase. For structural reasons, visiting the first floor with a wheelchair is unfortunately not possible.
Please note: Reduced admission tickets can only be purchased on site at the museum shop of Franzensburg Castle due to ID requirements, and not online. We kindly ask for your understanding.
Is the tower and rooftop tour in Franzensburg Castle wheelchair accessible?
For the tower and rooftop tour in Franzensburg Castle, 165 steps must be climbed. For structural reasons, visiting the High Tower and the rooftop areas is therefore unfortunately not possible for wheelchair users.
